Russia - An additional 5,000 covid beds are ready to deploy in St. Petersburg

Russia (bbabo.net), - If necessary, 450 beds in children's hospitals and about 5,000 in adult clinics will be deployed in the northern capital for patients with coronavirus. Oleg Ergashev, vice-governor of St. Petersburg, announced this today at a press conference.

Now the city's bed capacity for this category of patients is 8,000 beds. Of these, about a third is free (for children - about 20 percent of the beds are not occupied). If necessary, the total number of beds will be increased to 13,000. First of all, by increasing the bed capacity in institutions of federal subordination: the Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology, the National Medical Research Center named after V.A. Almazov, Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov and other clinics.

Yevgeny Shlyakhto, director of the Almazov Center, confirmed that the clinics have everything they need to deploy "red zones". A lock system has been created, staff has been trained, there are personal protective equipment and other necessary things.

A jump in incidence in St. Petersburg is predicted in two weeks. It is already clear: the Omicron strain will dominate. According to selective studies, it already makes up, as Yevgeny Shlyakhto emphasized, at least 30 percent of the total number of cases of coronavirus.

Over the past day, 4078 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the city.
