Moldova - Dodon on the Cheban National Alternative Movement: This is not our project

Moldova (bbabo.net), - PSRM honorary chairman Igor Dodon said he was not "shocked" when he learned that the mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, was launching the National Alternative Movement. The ex-head of state also noted that Cheban did not consult with the Socialist Party, unimedia.info reports.

“I have been in Moldovan politics for more than ten years, and it is difficult to shock me. I consider Ion Ceban one of the best mayors of Chisinau over the past few decades, and I do not say this because he was my party colleague. This is objective. If I am not mistaken, the overwhelming majority of those who were in your studio, political opponents, former opponents of Ion Ceban, admitted that changes for the better have taken place in Chisinau over the past two years.

And the success of these two years is due to two factors, firstly, the ability of Ion Ceban. In 2015, he renounced the mandate of a deputy and remained the chairman of the PSRM faction in the municipal council, he knows best what is happening in Chisinau. The second thing that ensured this obvious success is our team, because I, as head of state, supported it together with the government.

Our faction will support all the initiatives of Chisinau, and we will support the initiatives of the mayor, as we have done so far. Ion Ceban did not consult with us and should not consult about this Movement. Whether it becomes a political party or not is his decision. We support him as mayor. He launched this Movement, he probably has his own calculations, I repeat, he did not consult with us, and time will tell whether his decision was correct.

After that, we talked with him, mainly discussing the issues of Chisinau. I repeat that he is not a party member. If you are wondering if this is our project. He is not ours. For now, this Movement will decide whether it will be a political party or not," Dodon said.

It should be reminded that earlier the general mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, announced that he was launching the National Alternative Movement.
