The protection of Gibraltar’s heritage is at the root of an increasingly acrimonious clash between the Gibraltar Government and the Opposition over recent planning decisions.

The GSD has voiced deep concern over ‘highly questionable decisions’ made by the Development and Planning Commission (DPC) that go against guidelines in the Gibraltar Development Plan.

The party fears the DPC is allowing the destruction of valuable heritage sites and the construction of tall buildings within the city walls that will dramatically change Gibraltar’s townscape.

But the Gibraltar Government hit back and said the planning process was now more transparent than ever before and that the GSD had ‘a dismal record’ in this context.
