On the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan near the village of Somoniyon, as of the evening of January 27, four Kyrgyz soldiers and 11 citizens of Tajikistan were wounded. The death of one citizen of Tajikistan is also reported.

According to the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, the reason for the conflict was that earlier on January 27, "a group of unknown citizens of Kyrgyzstan in the amount of fifty people from among the inhabitants of the village council of Aksai, Batken region, on a bridge near the settlement of Khodjai-Alo, forcibly stopped a car of the Porter brand of a citizen Tajikistan, transporting sand, moving through Tajik territory from the settlement of Khodjai-Alo to the village of Somoniyon, Isfara district.

Due to the aggravation of the situation, several villages in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan were left without electricity. While there are skirmishes, the repairmen refuse to go to the line for repairs.

Earlier, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas held telephone conversations with Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda and his Kyrgyz counterpart Marat Imankulov, during which he demanded an immediate ceasefire.
