And in order to more clearly assess these scales, analysts explain that these volumes are comparable to almost the annual volume of its consumption by the population of almost ten million people in the country.

The large-scale energy project, experts state, is the locomotive for the development of many sectors of the economy of the Republic of Belarus, promotes the widespread introduction of modern technologies in production, and ensures the creation of new jobs.

And the head of the energy department of Belarus, Viktor Karankevich, specified in an interview with BelTA that 6.9 billion kWh of electricity have already been generated since the first unit was included in the unified energy system. By the way, with the commissioning of the second power unit, the volume of electricity generation at nuclear power plants will be about 18.5 billion kWh per year, which will make it possible to replace 4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

Over the years of the implementation of the nuclear energy program, the branch ministry confirmed, the republic has taken serious steps towards the formation of a nuclear and radiation safety system and its most important elements, including the creation of an appropriate regulatory framework, the building and functioning of a protection and response system, training of personnel, interaction on on a systematic basis with leading international organizations.

By the way, the Energy Minister said that fresh nuclear fuel had already been loaded into the core of the second reactor. "We are at the stage when hydrotests are being carried out for the density of the reactor plant - its primary and secondary circuits," the minister explained. Further, it is planned to reach the minimum controlled power level of the reactor plant with appropriate tests and studies. The next stage is the power start-up and the issuance of the first kilowatt-hours to the network.

And according to a representative of the sectoral ministry, five years ago, three points for sampling aerosols of the surface layer of the atmosphere were organized in the area where the BelNPP was located at nearby weather stations, which are located in Naroch, Oshmyany and Lyntupy. There are also three points of radiation monitoring of surface waters and four - of soils. All of them are included in the register of points of the national monitoring system. "We did not record any deviations from the previously obtained values," the experts sum up.

As SOYUZ has already informed, for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Grodno region, the Russian project AES-2006 of a new generation 3+ was chosen, in the construction of which 36 construction organizations took part. It fully complies with the international requirements of the IAEA and is distinguished by enhanced safety features.
