In Ukraine, a man was sentenced to 5 years probation for publishing quotes from Lenin and Stalin

Representatives of the Ukrainian court decided to sentence the man to 5 years of suspended imprisonment for publishing quotes from Lenin and Stalin on his page on the Odnoklassniki social network. The decision of the Chaplinsky District Court of the Kherson Region was published on the page of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

"To determine the punishment in the form of 5 years in prison," the court's decision says, but it is noted that the accused is released from punishment, since he admitted his guilt. He was placed on probation for 2 years.

According to the court, a resident of the Kherson region in the period from 2018 to 2020 published on his page on the social network "symbols of the Soviet, communist, totalitarian regime, as well as images of people who held leadership positions in the Communist Party."

In 2014, the Ukrainian authorities adopted a law on decommunization, according to which Soviet symbols were banned in the country, the demolition of monuments and the renaming of certain topographic objects were authorized.
