The State Duma told when the bill on the funeral business will be considered

The draft law on the funeral business in Russia will be introduced to the lower house of parliament in the spring session. Svetlana Razvorotneva, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Public Utilities, spoke about this in an interview with TASS.

The bill, she said, would address the problem with black funeral agents, clarify pricing in the industry, and provide an inventory of cemeteries.

“We are talking about amending a fairly large list of legislative acts: this, of course, is primarily the bill on the funeral business, this is the 131st federal law, and the law on state municipal control, etc. The changes will affect the Code of Administrative Offenses in that number,” she said.

According to Razvorotneva, the document delimits the powers of the authorities in controlling the funeral industry and establishes the concept of a "specialized funeral service."

The State Duma for the first time since 1996 may adopt a new law on the funeral business. It is proposed, in particular, to expand the circle of persons responsible for burial sites in order to solve the problem of abandoned graves. Funerals will become a public service, and ritual agencies will be included in a special register.
