Negotiations in Vienna on Iran's nuclear program will resume on February 8

Negotiations in Vienna around the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program will resume on Tuesday, February 8. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to a message from the official representative of the EU Foreign Service, Peter Stano.

He noted that negotiations will begin after a short break. This will be the eighth round. As Stano noted, the negotiators held consultations in their capitals and will now continue discussing a possible return of the United States to the “Iranian deal”.

Russia, the USA, France, Great Britain, Germany, China and Iran signed a nuclear deal in 2015. It was the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which provided for the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limiting Tehran's nuclear program. In May 2018, then US President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA and reinstated sanctions against Iran.

Now, the US administration has decided to restore the previously canceled exemptions from the sanctions against Iran's nuclear program.

The decision was made to enable third parties to participate in nuclear non-proliferation and security projects in Iran "due to growing concerns about non-proliferation."

At the same time, the diplomat noted that Washington considers such a step not as a concession to Tehran, but as a necessary measure.
