Greeks outraged by government violence against migrants

On Sunday, hundreds of people took to the streets of Athens to protest against the government's inhumane policy towards refugees arriving in the country, according to the Daily Sabah. The action was the response of the citizens of the country to the border incidents last week, which led to the death of 20 people.

During the first of them, a group of refugees was expelled by border guards outside of Greece, while the security forces deliberately removed warm clothes from the migrants, as a result of which 19 people died from the cold.

A few days later, three refugees who arrived on the coast of Greece by boat were dressed in children's life jackets and thrown into the sea. One of them did not know how to swim and begged not to be thrown into the water, as a result of what happened, the man drowned, and his comrades in misfortune managed to get to the coast of Turkey, where they were saved.

The demonstration was attended by about 700 people, most of them representatives of the left political forces and anti-fascists. They chanted slogans “refugees are being deliberately killed at the border” and “stop the expulsion of migrants and the violence at the border.” The protesters carried through the streets an inflatable rescue boat, one of those on which border guards send illegal migrants arriving to the shores to sail.
