Switzerland will transfer COVID-19 to the category of endemic diseases and remove a number of restrictions

The Swiss Federal Council issued a statement following a government meeting on February 2, stating that a number of restrictions will be lifted in the country from February 3, as "there are more signs that the crisis is ending and the endemic phase is beginning."

In particular, from tomorrow, February 3, Switzerland will lift the mandatory quarantine for those who have been in contact with patients with coronavirus infection, and the obligation to work from home will also be lifted. At the same time, those who have been diagnosed with coronavirus must still go into self-isolation.

The remaining restrictive measures may be lifted after February 16, when a new government meeting will be held. So far, there are plans to begin the phased lifting of all restrictions from February 17. At the first stage, the following may be canceled: the mandatory presentation of a certificate of vaccination in public places, a special permit for mass outdoor events, the limitation of private events. To visit the SPA, discos, gyms and swimming pools, it will be enough to show a certificate of vaccination. Now, to visit them, you need a fresh negative PCR test or a vaccination certificate no older than four months.

At the second stage, it is planned to cancel the mandatory wearing of masks and the presentation of a certificate of vaccination.

Swiss doctors note that although there are currently many cases of the disease, there is no overload of medical facilities. According to experts, this is due both to the high level of vaccination and to the fact that the Omicron strain entails fewer complications.
