China intends to turn Xinjiang into a ski resort

China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, where mass violations of the rights of the Turkic population take place, is increasingly portrayed in the Chinese media as a good skiing destination, reports the Daily Sabah. After the end of the Olympic Games, the Chinese leader intends to invest 157 billion dollars in the development of the ski tourism industry. And the main role among the places of winter recreation is assigned to Xinjiang.

Since 2015, when China was nominated to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, the country has quadrupled the number of ski resorts, 72 of which are located in Xinjiang. State channels began to broadcast reports about the life of remote mountain villages and training against the backdrop of the magnificent nature of athletes from among the representatives of national minorities.

Meanwhile, according to human rights groups, more than a million representatives of the same national minorities of Xinjiang are in camps where they are forced to work as slaves. The United States and several other countries have already called what is happening in East Turkestan a genocide, in response to which Beijing has called for sports not to be politicized.
