Russia - The Russian Ambassador in Seoul met with the presidential candidates of Korea

Russia (bbabo.net), - Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Seoul Andrey Kulik the day before held a meeting with presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, who represents the ruling Democratic Party "Toburo". A few weeks earlier, a meeting was held with another candidate, Yoon Seok Yeol, who represents the interests of the opposition.

According to local media, the main topic of talks between Andrey Kulik and Lee Jae-myung was the issue of cooperation between Russia and South Korea. Lee Jae Myung, who is considered one of the two main contenders for victory in the presidential election scheduled for March 9, noted that during his tenure as governor of Gyeonggi province, he repeatedly communicated with Russian officials and businessmen. "I hope that our countries will continue to actively cooperate," he said, noting that bilateral trade between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea (RK) has increased markedly. Li stressed that Russia has many advanced technologies that are of great interest to the ROK. The presidential candidate also named energy, the hydrogen industry, as well as exchanges in the field of culture and art as the most promising areas of cooperation.

The Korean politician and the Russian ambassador then discussed the possibility of trilateral cooperation with the involvement of North Korea, which will make it possible to implement large-scale projects. "I hope for the expansion of both bilateral and trilateral - with the participation of North Korea - cooperation that will allow us to get to Russia not only by plane, but also by land - by car or train," Lee said, referring to the possibility of creating a single trans-Korean rail and road route, which would then be connected to Russian highways. The politician expressed hope for the implementation of the project of laying a gas pipeline from Russia to South Korea through the territory of the DPRK, which will allow South Koreans to receive blue fuel at a cheaper price.

Russian Ambassador to Korea Andrei Kulik supported the ideas of Lee Jae-myung, noting that "the development of trusting, friendly and constructive relations meets the basic interests of both countries," and the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan "intend to make every effort to intensify cooperation." The Russian diplomat also said that "Korean culture is very popular in Russia, and Koreans, in turn, appreciate and love Russian culture," which allows expanding ties in these areas.

In addition, Andrei Kulik pointed to the need to expand ties not only at the bilateral, but also at the multilateral level.

As the ex-ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Moscow, Wee Sung Lak, who is now in charge of foreign policy issues at the campaign headquarters of Lee Jae-myung, later said, presidential candidate Lee proposed opening a separate cultural center of the Russian Federation in Korea. "There is no cultural center of Russia in Korea now, while our cultural center exists in the Russian Federation. Candidate Lee said in this regard that it would be good if such a center of Russian culture appeared in Korea. This idea was supported by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation and was accepted decision to actively work in this direction," Wee told reporters.

It should be noted that a few weeks ago, on January 19, Russian Ambassador to Seoul Andrey Kulik met with the second main contender for the post of the next president of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ex-Prosecutor General Yun Sok-yeol, who is the official candidate in the elections from the opposition party Power of the People, which has a conservative orientation. During that meeting, Kulik and Yun also spoke in favor of developing bilateral cooperation between Korea and Russia. Interaction in the Far East of the Russian Federation, development of the Northern Sea Route, information technology and the hydrogen industry were identified as the most promising areas.
