"Our serious concern is that the United States and its allies are escalating the situation to such an extent that the game to raise rates can turn into a real tragedy, the perpetrators of which will be precisely those who imposed on us, and large, the international community, this dangerous game," the diplomat said.
As Gatilov pointed out, the West is using unfounded accusations to mislead the world community about the true causes of the current global tension. According to him, the unleashed anti-Russian hysteria in the context of Ukraine has reached such proportions in recent months that even Kiev has been puzzled. "It's paradoxical, but the deployment and maneuvers of Russian troops on Russian territory is interpreted as a" threat to international peace and security ", - noted the permanent representative. As the diplomat emphasized, such interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation is unacceptable. And the fact that these unproven accusations come from the United States, "the record holder for annual defense budgets and the number of military bases outside its territory", is "the height of cynicism."
At the same time, the US and its allies have stepped up military preparations near Russian borders. Together with threats of sanctions, this exacerbates the situation and worsens the atmosphere for security dialogue.
However, according to Gatilov, the West is not ready for a real unleashing of the conflict with Russia. And all military maneuvers, sanctions and political pressure are being used to "raise the stakes in negotiations on security guarantees."
Despite all this, Moscow is ready to continue dialogue with the West. "Our desire to negotiate with the United States on issues of international and European security does not depend on sanctions threats from Washington. The main thing we are waiting for now is clear answers from the United States and NATO to our documents on security guarantees," - Gatilov said. According to him, in the replies already received, there was no proper response to the priority topics for Russia about the non-expansion of NATO, the non-deployment of strike weapons systems in countries neighboring Russia and the return of NATO to the 1997 configuration.
