Permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN: the West uses the myth of Russia's invasion of Ukraine as a pretext

The myth of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine provides the West with an excuse to increase the military budget and build up a military presence near Russian borders. This was stated by Russia's permanent representative to the Geneva office of the United Nations (UN) Gennady Gatilov, RIA Novosti reports.

"For the United States, this is a very convenient occasion to consolidate its military presence in countries neighboring Russia and thus cement the foundation of North Atlantic unity, which is mixed up on containing Russia," the diplomat said.

At the same time, Gatilov noted that Moscow's statements about the absence of any plans to attack Ukraine are completely ignored in the United States and other Western countries, which confirms the above.

Since the fall of last year, the Western media, as well as in Ukraine, have been claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine. In Moscow, such allegations have been repeatedly rejected.

Earlier, Gatilov said that the West is not ready for a real confrontation with Russia.
