The US Congress did not have time to vote on sanctions against Russia

The US Congress did not have time to consider a bill on sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation of tension around Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The publication notes that on February 9, the United States House of Representatives went on vacation without voting on the sanctions bill. Congress will resume its work only on February 28.

The agency notes that representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States cannot reach a consensus on the effectiveness of measures against Russia. U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said sanctions would not deter Russia from carrying out its alleged "aggressive plans" against Ukraine. At the same time, the Democrats refuse to act preventively.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said that the US Congress will prepare sanctions against Russia, only the timing of their introduction is in question.

Antonov noted that US congressmen support anti-Russian restrictions, the subject of discussion is the development of the most painful measures.
