Stoltenberg said that Russia and NATO need to resolve contradictions for mutual benefit

Russia and NATO need to show determination and find a way to resolve their differences for mutual benefit. This was stated in an article for The Economist by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

In his material, Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is ready to engage in dialogue with Moscow, but insists on the need to respect the "rights of sovereign countries" to choose their allies.

“In 2010, when I was Prime Minister of Norway, we concluded an agreement with Russia that ended the decades-long territorial dispute in the Barents Sea. Having shown strength and determination, we have found a way forward that has proved beneficial to both sides, increased cooperation in the field of fisheries and the management of oil and gas resources,” writes the NATO Secretary General.

According to him, today “the same should be done with Russia”. Stoltenberg stressed that the alliance is ready to "listen to Russia's concerns" and discuss with Moscow ways to improve relations.

Earlier, Stoltenberg said that the joint declaration of China and the Russian Federation after the meeting of the leaders of the countries is an attempt to deny the right of sovereign countries to make their choice regarding defense alliances.
