Italy fines unvaccinated people over 50

While in a number of European countries the authorities are easing or even canceling anti-coronavirus restrictions, Italy is going its own way. Here, people over 50 years old who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 now face a fine of 100 euros. Moreover, the same sanctions await those whose covid certificate has expired, that is, they were vaccinated or were ill more than six months ago.

This measure is contained in a government decree approved in early January and entered into force in February. It introduces compulsory vaccination of persons over 50 years of age. Without a vaccination document (or a negative test for coronavirus), they can now simply not be allowed into stores (with the exception of food), government agencies and banks.

In addition, the validity of certificates has been reduced from 9 to 6 months. Without this document in Italy, you can not get to a restaurant, or to a theater, or on a plane, or use public transport.

From February 15, Italians over 50 years of age will also have to present a health certificate in order to get to work, those who do not have time to receive it will be removed from their positions without the right to receive wages. Any person caught in the workplace without this certificate will be fined between 600 and 1500 euros, the company can also be fined the same amount.

According to local media, about 1.9 million people over 50 years of age have not been vaccinated in Italy so far.
