They're actually on the floor. What Peskov said about relations between Russia and the West

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation said that relations between Russia and the United States "are in fact lying on the floor." He attributed the dialogue between the leaders of countries to the only plus in the interaction between states.

“We can only talk about the minus”

“Here, perhaps, it is possible to write in a positive way that no matter how hard it is in other areas, there are still certain channels for dialogue. The heads of state are in dialogue, dialogues are underway in other areas. This is a plus. This is a plus, because, as you know, just a couple of years ago, we had zero dialogue, as such there were no contacts. But otherwise, unfortunately, in bilateral relations we can only speak of a minus. We are at a very, very low point. They actually lie on the floor," Peskov told RIA Novosti.

According to him, everything is "not very good" in terms of dialogue with the West on disarmament. He noted the "obviousness" that Russia is waiting for "many years of heavy positional confrontation in the course of negotiations, the effectiveness of which is in question."

Peskov also spoke about how the United States is reacting to Moscow's projects on security guarantees.

“Both in 2007 and in 2022, he (Putin) directly raised the question of the drafts of those two documents that were submitted to Washington and NATO. We did not receive direct answers. Moreover, we state an attempt to concentrate on secondary details. And an attempt to avoid mentioning these critically important problems for us, ”said the presidential press secretary.

He also "has no doubt that President Putin will continue to be consistent in his position."

“And he will insist that those issues that are actually existential issues for us are not left without attention and are not ignored,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

Earlier, the Russian Federation sent projects to the United States and NATO, in which it demanded to abandon the further expansion of NATO and the accession of Ukraine or other post-Soviet countries to the alliance. In addition, the Russian side suggested that NATO not deploy additional military contingents and weapons outside the countries in which they were in May 1997. Russia also expected, among other things, commitments from the West not to deploy weapons and forces in areas where it would be perceived by the other side as a threat to national security.

Negotiations have not yet been successful. Moreover, the West accused the Russian Federation of Russia's allegedly impending invasion of Ukraine and strengthened its military contingent in the region.

H4 Pillars, "which has always chrome in the EU" / h4 Peskov added that the foreign policy concept of the Russian Federation revision, taking into account the current international situation.

“Our foreign policy documents, of course, are undergoing changes. You know that literally a week earlier, at the operational meeting of the permanent members of the Security Council, the main outlines of our new foreign policy concept were considered. And it will improve. But just considering what is happening now. In this regard, the situation is not static, it is developing dialectically on our part,” the presidential press secretary said.

He also noted that the US is persistent in trying to influence its partners in Europe, to tell them. At the same time, the Kremlin hopes that common sense will prevail in the EU, and the Europeans will think first of all about their own interests.

“European states are consistently and very energetically trying to strengthen the direction of foreign policy and security in their integration processes,” Peskov said.

He is convinced that this is "one of the pillars that has always been lame in the EU", and "Europeans are desperately trying to increase the EU's foreign policy role in world affairs."

“It doesn't quite work out. First, the influence of Washington is still very strong. The United States has never experienced a lack of perseverance and even such a cowboy approach in trying to influence its partners in Europe, they are bluntly stating what should be done by anyone, and if someone disagrees with this, they are directly told that they are in favor of it. will. It was, it is, it continues. And we are well aware of this,” the Kremlin spokesman explained.

He noted that the current situation contrasts strongly with the desire of the Europeans to become more sovereign in their foreign policy interests.

“But let’s hope all the same that common sense will prevail here, and that the Europeans will first of all think about our common home, about Europe, where we live side and are direct neighbors,” concluded the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.

You won’t be forced to be nice

The day before, Peskov told RIA Novosti that Russia is interested in cooperation with the United States and Europe.“Russia is a country that seeks cooperation with everyone. We are interested in cooperation with our European partners. We are interested in cooperation with the United States - both in trade and economic, and in investment, and on security issues. But you won't be forced to be nice. Therefore, of course, Russia will look for opportunities to expand cooperation where it sees reciprocity," the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

He added that it is "an absolutely normal practice when the lack of communication on one, let's say, flank is compensated by communication on the other flank." “And this happens in all states, including Russia,” Peskov explained.
