Threat of air attack. Why OSCE staff are leaving Donetsk

Employees of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) leave the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and travel to the territory controlled by Kiev. Their cars were seen on the line of demarcation. According to the media, the OSCE fears the beginning of an invasion of Ukraine.

Six OSCE vehicles

Some members of the OSCE mission are likely to leave the DPR, an informed source told Interfax.

“Now six cars are crossing the demarcation line through the Oleksandrivka checkpoint (a suburb of Donetsk) in the direction of Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, this may indicate the beginning of the evacuation of observers from the DNR. Before that, as a rule, only two or three OSCE patrol cars crossed the line of contact.

This information was also confirmed by a Reuters source. He specified that employees of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe from the United States are leaving the Donetsk People's Republic. They allegedly left Donetsk amid fears of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.

It is also specified that the United States and its allies called on their citizens to leave the territory of the DPR due to the possible threat of an air attack.

Representatives of the OSCE have not yet commented on this information.

Large-scale provocation

The OSCE is also recalling its employees from the EU countries from the self-proclaimed republics, Rodion Miroshnik, a representative of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic in the political subgroup, told RIA Novosti.

“The recall of representatives of the EU, the US and Britain from the OSCE SMM is a conscious step by the West to block the flow of official information from Ukraine, and the military danger has nothing to do with it. This is the preparation of some kind of large-scale provocation, ”said the representative of the LPR.

According to him, provocations are being prepared by "Kyiv and its Western curators." Miroshnik believes that the withdrawal of monitors from the SMM will deprive the organization of the ability to carry out its duties in accordance with the mandate.

Waiting for an invasion

This week, American Politico, citing "informed sources", reported that US President Joe Biden had given Western leaders the date of Russia's "attack" on Ukraine - February 16.

The leadership of the United States also decided to recall the staff of the embassy in Ukraine due to "increasing tensions." Part of the workers will be transferred to Lviv.

In addition, Washington plans to remove American citizens from Ukraine from the OSCE SMM involved in the Donbass, CNN reported, citing a source in the US administration.

The West has repeatedly accused Russia of the impending "invasion" of the territory of Ukraine. As an argument, Western politicians cite information that Moscow has increased its presence in the border areas with Ukraine to 125,000 soldiers.

Moscow denies all accusations and emphasizes that any movement of troops across the country's territory is a sovereign matter. NATO and the alliance's allies think otherwise, are strengthening their military presence in the region and are preparing a package of sanctions in case of an invasion.
