UK sends fighter jets to Romania over situation in Ukraine

UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that RAF Typhoon fighter jets will be sent to patrol Romanian airspace due to the situation in Ukraine. He spoke about this in an interview with The Times.

According to him, if Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to invade Ukraine, two things will happen: an increase in NATO troops on Russian borders and an increase in NATO members' defense spending.

Wallace noted that such consequences of a possible invasion of Ukraine would not be in Russia's strategic interests.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed his intention to strengthen the military presence in Eastern Europe in connection with the tense situation around Ukraine. Stoltenberg noted that NATO is considering the possibility of deploying new battle groups not only in Romania, but also in other countries of the Black Sea region.

The West has repeatedly accused Russia of the impending "invasion" of the territory of Ukraine. As an argument, Western politicians use the fact that the Russian Federation has allegedly increased its presence in the border zones with Ukraine - up to 125,000 soldiers.

Moscow denies all accusations and emphasizes that any movement of troops across the country's territory is a sovereign matter. NATO and the alliance's allies think otherwise and are preparing a package of sanctions in the event of an invasion.
