Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that the European Union, closing itself off from cooperation with Russia, is making a strategic mistake and ceding economic opportunities to China. He stated this annual speech, which was broadcast on YouTube.

“We consider the strategy of Brussels to be erroneous, and sanctions against Russia a dead end. Closing themselves from cooperation with Russia, European countries are completely giving up economic opportunities to China. This is a strategic mistake,” the prime minister said.

Orban noted that Hungary cannot change the foreign policy of the European Union, and therefore "developed and uses" its own model of relations with Russia.

“We are members of the EU and NATO, but at the same time we cooperate with Russia. The example of Hungary proves that this is possible, ”the politician emphasized.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said earlier that Berlin was ready to pay a high price for the security of Ukraine and, in the event of an escalation, had prepared "a number of tough measures against Russia."

At the same time, the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, wrote in his blog that Russia has increased its resistance to EU sanctions by increasing its gold and foreign exchange reserves. He believes Moscow has done more than the European Union to deal with potential disruptions to gas supplies.
