Scholz and Zelensky disagree on Nord Stream 2

Negotiations between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who arrived on a visit to Kiev, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky lasted almost two hours - longer than planned, reports Spiegel online. According to the publication, during the negotiations, the topic of Nord Stream 2 was also discussed, however, "apparently, no unity was achieved on it."

At the very least, Zelensky acknowledged following the meeting that Kiev and Berlin still have "different assessments" regarding the gas pipeline. In the meantime, Chancellor F has promised Ukraine "unprecedented financial assistance" - a quick repayment of 150 million euros under the current loan and another loan of the same amount.

"In recent years, no other country has supported Ukraine financially as much as Germany," the newspaper notes. In total, in recent years, the amount of German cash injections into the Ukrainian budget has approached two billion. At the same time, nothing is known about whether the German Cabinet changed its decision not to supply weapons to Kiev. Until now, such changes, which were hoped for in Kiev, have not been reported.

Just before Scholz's visit, the Ukrainian side handed over to the German partners another urgent request - for the supply of 12,000 anti-tank missiles. However, there has been no response so far. In response to a question from journalists, the guest from Berlin repeated as evasively as possible at a press conference: "Germany considers every request, and only when the consideration is completed, it will be possible to say something." As Die Welt notes, "the chancellor is showing solidarity, while not fulfilling the real wishes of President Zelensky."

Olaf Scholz is expected to return to Berlin on the evening of February 14, and the next morning he will go to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, the Federal Chancellery "deliberately separated these visits from each other so that each of them was framed as a separate trip."
