The State Department expressed readiness for new meetings with Russian diplomats

The United States is actively working on a diplomatic solution to the security crisis and is ready for new meetings with Russian diplomats. This was stated to RIA Novosti by a representative of the State Department.

“We are actively working to reach a diplomatic solution. We remain in contact with the Russian government after President Biden's call to President Putin. We remain open to new meetings with Russian counterparts," a State Department spokeswoman responded to a request for comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's proposal to "continue and increase" Russia's diplomatic engagement with the West in order to withdraw for a negotiated decision.

The State Department also recalled that US President Joe Biden, in a recent conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, confirmed the existence of a "diplomatic way forward" provided that Moscow is ready for serious interaction and de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine.

The talks between the leaders of the two states took place on February 12. Biden during the conversation "made it clear" that in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, Washington and its allies would "strongly respond" and impose serious sanctions on Moscow.

Yuri Rogulev, director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, believes that the American president tried to put pressure on Russia, and not come to any compromise. According to him, the Americans do not want to discuss the issues promoted by Russia, and are trying to "replace one with the other."
