Russian President Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Stolz commented on the appeal of State Duma deputies on the need to recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).

“I will proceed from the fact that we must do everything to solve the problems of Donbass, but to do this first of all, as Mr. Federal Chancellor (Olaf Scholz of Germany) said, from the opportunities to implement the Minsk agreements that have not been fully realized,” Putin said.

He stressed that Russia expects that its partners in Europe and overseas will be able to influence the current government of Ukraine.

Earlier, Scholz said that Russia's recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics would be a political disaster and a violation of the Minsk agreements.

On the eve of the deputies of the State Duma of Russia, by a majority of votes, they supported the draft resolution developed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. 351 deputies voted for the draft resolution, 16 opposed and one abstained.
