Russia - Deputies initiated a check on the refusal of the maternity hospital to give the baby to the mother

Russia (bbabo.net) - A number of State Duma deputies sent an appeal to the Ministry of Health with a request to verify information about the refusal of the Nizhny Novgorod maternity hospital to give the baby to the woman in labor because of the debt.

The letter addressed to Minister Mikhail Murashko was signed by State Duma deputies Yana Lantratova, Igor Ananskikh ("A Just Russia - For Truth") and Sergei Shargunov (KPRF).

The deputies ask, if the information is confirmed, "to take immediate response measures in order to prevent violation of the rights of a newborn child and his family."

As Lantratova clarified, according to the information that the deputies are asking to verify, the staff of the maternity hospital refused to give the child to the woman for two weeks, since she allegedly has a debt to the medical institution. The woman in labor herself, who came from Donetsk, claimed that her documents were stolen from her, and the doctors billed her a substantial bill after giving birth.

If the story is confirmed, then the violation of the rights of the child, who after birth should be with his mother, is obvious, Lantratova believes. "This is extremely important for his mental health and the preservation of lactation," she said.

"In a civilized society, there are many ways to force a person to pay a debt without resorting to the use of force," the deputy stressed. "Colleagues are also concerned about the situation, we want to understand why this happened as soon as possible. We ask the Ministry of Health to connect to the situation and find out everything."
