Latvia sees a threat to its own security in the event of a Russian-Ukrainian war

If Russia decides to attack Ukraine, Latvia will inevitably face certain security risks, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the country Janis Garisons said on the air of Latvian television on February 14. His words are quoted by eng.lsm.lv.

“Russia is increasingly concentrating its military forces near the borders of Ukraine, and this week these forces have been put on the highest alert. The active phase of military training is also taking place in Belarus. At present, the risk of making a decision to attack Ukraine is very high, ”said the representative of the department.

Thus, the Ministry of Defense has identified potential threats to the republic, which is located near a potential theater of operations. The official believes that the country may also be subjected to cyber attacks and become a victim of various information campaigns.

Earlier it became known that this week Lithuania will receive an additional contingent from Germany in the NATO combined battalion. It is noted that an additional number of troops will be sent to the Baltic state due to the situation on the border with Ukraine and the "deterioration of the security situation in the region."
