Russia explained the reason for the delay in the ratification of the border treaty with Estonia

The Russian embassy in Tallinn said that the process of ratifying the border treaty between Russia and Estonia stands still because of the position of the Baltic republic. It is reported by TASS.

“One cannot but agree that the ratification of the border treaties will contribute to the stabilization of bilateral relations, but for this, first of all, official Tallinn must take concrete steps,” the diplomatic mission said.

The Russian embassy emphasized that it was in 2005 that Estonia actually blocked the ratification of similar agreements. Given this, Russia has the right to expect that such a scenario will not happen again.

“Unfortunately, the ratification process is still stalled because of Estonia's position. The corresponding ratification package was submitted by the government of the Russian Federation and has been in the State Duma since March 2015,” the diplomatic mission noted.

Earlier, the opposition parliamentary Isamaa (“Fatherland”) party called on the Estonian government not to continue consultations with Russia on the possibility of ratifying the border treaty between the two countries, given the current geopolitical situation.
