In Ukraine, they responded with indifference to the possible recognition of the DPR and LPR by Russia

The possible recognition of the DPR and LPR by Russia will not play a big role for Kiev. This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, reports The Wall Street Journal.

“The turning point will come when the Russian Federation realizes that we are a separate state,” said the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. He expressed the opinion that in the current conditions, the possible recognition of the DPR and LPR by Russia will not play a big role, adding that Kiev is not going to capture them by force.

Commenting on the withdrawal of Russian troops, Danilov said that Kiev should wait for confirmation from intelligence "that this is really happening."

On February 15, State Duma deputies supported a draft resolution developed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. 351 members of the State Duma voted for its adoption, 16 people opposed, and one more abstained. The parliamentarians expressed confidence that the recognition of the republics of Donbass would protect the population from external threats and prevent "genocide against the inhabitants of the republics."

Earlier, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said that the European Union should impose sanctions on Russia if Moscow recognizes the DPR and LPR.
