Pamfilova: 57% of Russians consider elections fair

Russia (bbabo.net) - The majority of Russians are confident in the honesty of the elections taking place in the country, said the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, citing data from the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM).

"Recently, VTsIOM conducted another poll and 57% of respondents are convinced of the honesty of the election results in Russia," Pamfilova said at a commission meeting on Wednesday.

She considers the resulting figure impressive. "It gives us confidence that it is not in vain that we are making so much effort to ensure that the elections really take place as it is worthy of our great country, and that the level of openness and reliability of the results is such that people have no doubts," added the head of the Central Election Commission.

At the same time, she promised that the commission would not rest on this. "We still have a lot to do in this direction," said Ella Pamfilova. "We are working for the voters, their trust is the most important thing for us, this is the result of our work."

The VTsIOM presentation on the elections contains a detailed analysis of the electoral preferences of Russians in the elections to the State Duma of the eighth convocation, which took place in September last year.

In addition, sociologists asked about the attitude to the elections in general. 27% of respondents believe that the elections were generally fair, another 30% admit that there were minor violations that did not affect the final result. The majority - 63% - believes that violations have decreased or their number has not changed, only 16% of respondents adhere to a figurative point of view. More than half of the respondents (56%) believe that their votes were counted correctly, only 8% expressed the opposite opinion, 10% found it difficult to answer, and 26% could not remember when they last went to the polls.

The VTsIOM presentation was compiled on the basis of a telephone survey conducted among 1,600 adult Russians. The marginal error for this sample does not exceed 2.5%.
