Russia - Department of Health: Omicron has been circulating in Chukotka for two weeks

Russia (bbabo.net) - A new strain of coronavirus infection "omicron", identified on Tuesday in the Chukotka Autonomous District, could have come to the region two weeks ago, the district health department said on its Instagram page.

"Despite the fact that official confirmation was received only on February 15, we believe that Omicron has been circulating in Chukotka for the past two weeks," the report says.

Recall that the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug was the last Russian region where the new strain reached.

The county is currently experiencing a sharp rise in the incidence of coronavirus. The largest number of people infected with a dangerous infection is noted in the capital of the region.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, the diagnosis of COVID-19 has been confirmed in 3,502 residents of the peninsula, 3,042 people have recovered, 42 have died. 1,156 people are in mandatory self-isolation.
