With radicals out of the way

The Youth Anti-Terrorism Forum "Together for Life" was held in Bishkek. Its participants discussed how to counteract the influence of radical religious groups on the younger generation.

The discussion was organized by the public association "People's Cathedral" in Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic and the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Spiritual Board of Muslims and the Russian Orthodox Church.

“The dissemination of extremist ideas among young people via the Internet is a serious danger,” says Igor Shestakov, an expert at the Eurasian Generation Center for the Study of Destructive Phenomena among Youth. - Here it is necessary not to miss the situation and track it in time. That is why the participation of state bodies and religious organizations is important.

According to the forum participants, the fact that Kyrgyzstanis often travel to the Middle East to study theology remains a serious threat to the country's security. An alternative to this could be cooperation in the field of religious education with Russia.

Experts also drew attention to the fact that, despite the measures taken by the authorities, a number of radical organizations continue to operate in the country. They actively involve teenagers in their ranks, which poses a threat to both religious communities and society as a whole.
