US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov could talk again after the US receives a Russian response to its security proposals. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“When we receive it, I think it will be a natural opportunity for them to contact again,” Price said.
He stressed that a telephone conversation or face-to-face meeting with Lavrov does not yet appear in Blinken's work schedule. According to him, the United States is waiting for a Russian response from day and hopes that it will provide an opportunity to continue diplomatic work.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the preparation of Russia's response to the United States and NATO on security guarantees is in its final stages.
The United States and NATO refused to sign a treaty on security guarantees in Europe, which was proposed by Russia. Western partners do not agree with the demand not to accept former Soviet countries into the alliance, which was supposed to be part of the agreement with Moscow. In addition, the US and NATO have accused Russia of "breaking the trust" that underpins cooperation between the countries because of the situation around Ukraine. Nevertheless, the West is ready to continue discussing with Moscow measures for joint disarmament and de-escalation.
