Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that the country is currently successfully blocking the launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. He spoke about this as part of a telethon dedicated to the Day of Unity announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the recording was published on the ICTV YouTube channel.
“Today we (Ukraine) are successfully blocking such a Russian hybrid gas weapon in the form of Nord Stream 2 and will continue to do so,” Shmyhal said.
He stressed that Nord Stream 2 allegedly “threatens” not only Ukraine, but the entire European Union.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the speedy launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would help Europe stabilize the situation on the gas market, as well as reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
The day before, US President Joe Biden said that Western countries would not allow the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to start operating in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press conference following a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stressed that Nord Stream 2 is a purely commercial project without political overtones.
