The Pentagon told Russia about the interaction of aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea

The Pentagon has given Moscow information in connection with the recent "interaction" of military aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the headquarters of the US Department of Defense.

“We communicated our concerns to Russian officials through diplomatic channels. As long as no one is hurt, such interactions can lead to miscalculations and errors with dangerous consequences, ”the US military said.

The Pentagon recalled that over the past weekend, three US Navy P-8A aircraft were subjected to “interceptions” of Russian aircraft.

US and Russian aircraft operating in the Mediterranean Sea flew dangerously close to each other several times last week, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier, citing US defense officials.

The incidents took place in international airspace on 11 and 12 February.

The publication claims that three Russian Su-35 fighters crossed the flight path of three American P-8A reconnaissance aircraft. At one point, the planes of the two countries were within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of each other.

The Pentagon rated two incidents as unsafe and a third as unprofessional.
