The State Duma will not support the ban on mentioning the nationality of criminals in the news

The State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications will not support a bill banning the media from publishing information about the nationality and religion of criminals. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to two unnamed deputies.

The bill was introduced in November last year by the Chechen parliament. According to the authors of the initiative, the ban is necessary to maintain peace and harmony in Russia between representatives of different nationalities and religions.

“The document will receive a negative response from the government, after which the committee, having discussed the bill, recommends that the chamber reject it,” the first parliamentarian suggested.

The second deputy expressed a similar opinion.

Earlier, Vice Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov criticized the initiative of the Chechen parliament, noting that citizens of any state have the right to know the nationality of the offender.

Prior to this, the commission of the Council under the President of Russia on human rights in the information sphere opposed the suppression of the nationality of criminals.
