French Foreign Minister Le Drian: There are no more security standards in Europe

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said there are no more security standards in Europe because arms control pacts are "almost obsolete or irrelevant".

"While Russia demands stability and guarantees, we also demand stability and guarantees. Europe needs guarantees of security and stability," the French minister said in an interview with Finantial Times. He also stressed that Europe is ready to discuss all this.

Answering a question about the withdrawal of Russian troops from the border with Ukraine, Le Drian expressed the opinion that it is necessary to see how the maneuvers in the Black Sea, on the territory of Belarus and near the Ukrainian border, end.

Recall that at the end of 2021, Russia presented a draft treaty with the United States and an agreement with NATO on security guarantees. The documents outline the key demands of Moscow on the non-expansion of NATO and the non-deployment of strike weapons of the alliance near the borders of the Russian Federation. No agreement has yet been reached with the West on this topic.
