The French Foreign Ministry spoke about the reaction of Paris to the possible recognition of the LPR and DPR

French Foreign Minister Jacques-Yves Drian said in an interview with The Financial Times that the country would regard Russia's recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR as an act of "unarmed aggression."

According to him, such a step by Russia would definitely "violate the Minsk agreements." However, the minister did not talk about whether the decision of the Russian authorities would entail new Western sanctions.

On February 15, State Duma deputies supported a draft resolution developed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. 351 members of the State Duma voted for its adoption, 16 people opposed, and one more abstained.

Later, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly told French President Emmanuel Macron that the initiative to recognize the independence of the republics of Donbass would not be taken into account.
