Putin and Japanese Prime Minister had a telephone conversation

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation, including discussing the situation with Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the Japanese agency "Kyodo".

Speaking at a press conference, Kishida called for diplomatic efforts with Russia and other countries that are involved in an attempt to ease tensions around Ukraine.

Other details of the conversation with Putin are not given.

“We need to work on easing tensions, given our relations with Russia,” the Japanese prime minister noted.

According to him, Tokyo does not want to impose any restrictions on Moscow if the "invasion" of the Russian Federation does occur.

Kishida stressed that if sanctions against Russia follow, it will be necessary to raise the issue of the territorial affiliation of the island of Hokkaido. Due to the long-term territorial dispute, the Russian Federation and Japan were unable to sign a post-war peace treaty.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida called the problem of a peace treaty with Russia a struggle against time.

The Kremlin also assessed the situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine.
