The UN believes that tensions around Ukraine for the first time reached a maximum since 2014

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary Di Carlo said that tensions around Ukraine have now reached their highest level since 2014.

Di Carlo noted that this situation can be treated differently, but this does not negate the fact that it is "extremely dangerous."

“Everywhere you can hear speculation and accusations in connection with a possible military conflict,” the diplomat said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

She also said that there is almost no progress on the implementation of the Minsk agreements. According to Di Carlo, the UN is also calling on all parties to the conflict in Donbass to exercise maximum restraint amid the shelling recorded earlier on February 17.

In the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR on Thursday morning, they reported a strong aggravation of the situation on the line of contact. Representatives of the republics said that Ukraine is making attempts to escalate the conflict. Information about the victims is being clarified. Read more about the situation in the material.
