Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia, recently reported that last year 1,019 cases involving 1,150 persons were considered with the participation of jurors. 68% of the defendants were convicted, 32% of the accused were acquitted. "This year, a decision will be adopted by the Plenum of the Supreme Court on the selection of jurors, the observance of the secrecy of the meeting of jurors and the grounds for the annulment of sentences made on the basis of the verdicts of the jury," Vyacheslav Lebedev said.
The participation of people from the people in trials as a jury is not just a civic duty. This work is paid. By law, jury compensation is half the salary of a judge of this court in proportion to the number of days.
That is, if the case was heard in the district court, the jury fee is tied to the salary of the district judge, if in the regional court, then the regional judge. But money loves not only an account, but also speed. It's good when they come quickly. In practice, situations have been identified when citizens who participated in the trial as jurors had to wait a long time for the payment of remuneration. The Accounts Chamber pointed out such facts at one time.

"The adopted law will improve the guarantees of financial support for jurors in the administration of justice in criminal cases and streamline the procedure for paying compensation to them," commented Vladimir Gruzdev, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.
He recalled that a reform of the institution of jury trials was carried out several years ago. Six-member juries were introduced in district courts. Prior to this, jury trials operated only in the courts of the regional level.
