The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kislitsa, switched to Russian during a meeting of the UN Security Council and read out an excerpt from a poem by Yevgeny Yevtushenko, in response to this, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin quoted Nikolai Zabolotsky's poems, RIA Novosti reports.
During his speech, Kislitsa quoted Yevtushenko's poem "Stalin's Heirs".
“Let them say to me: “Calm down ...” - I won’t be able to be calm. // As long as Stalin's heirs are still alive on earth, // It will seem to me that Stalin is still in the mausoleum, ”he read out an excerpt in Russian.
In turn, Vershinin responded to this by quoting Zabolotsky's poem "Ugly Girl".
“And if so, then what is beauty // And why do people deify it? // Is she a vessel, in which there is emptiness // Or fire, flickering in a vessel? - the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation recited, adding that he loves it when political messages are clothed in poetry.
Vershinin also compared beauty with wisdom.
“We need to have wisdom, we need to make wise decisions. I am for it, as far as the settlement in the east of Ukraine on the basis of the Minsk package of measures is concerned," he concluded.
On Thursday, within the walls of the UN Security Council, a meeting was held dedicated to the problem of the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The Russian side pointed out that for seven years Ukraine has not fulfilled a single point of the set of measures to implement the Minsk agreements.
