Russia - What to watch at the From Venice to Moscow Film Festival

Russia (bbabo.net), - On February 18, Italian Ambassador to Russia Giorgio Starace opened the film festival "From Venice to Moscow" at the Oktyabr cinema. On the big screen, viewers in Moscow and Novosibirsk will be able to see the masterpieces shown last fall at the 78th Venice Film Festival.

The two most important themes of the festival this year were the interweaving of reality with art and all kinds of boundaries. As long as art is alive, nothing will happen to humanity. The pandemic has confirmed this. Therefore, the program includes three films about people of art. The most long-awaited "Ennio. Maestro", which Giuseppe Tornatore filmed for almost seven years. The name Morricone has remained in world culture like the names of Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven. The author of music for 500 films never aspired to fame. From his frank self-reflection story, the viewer will learn how Morricone, who dreamed of becoming a doctor, succumbed to the persuasion of his trumpeter father to study music, how he studied at the conservatory under the guidance of the eminent Goffredo Petrazzi, who considered film music to be a "low" genre. This candid interview, which the director filmed at the maestro's home, will be complemented by stories about Morricone by famous world directors - Clint Eastwood, Terrence Malick, Hans Zimmer, Quentin Tarantino.

Acclaimed cinephile Quentin Tarantino will appear in another tape - he will talk about his favorite director of spaghetti westerns Sergio Corbucci in Luca Rea's film "Django". According to Tarantino, all Corbucci's films are primarily about the evil of fascism.

"Ezio Bosso. What will remain after us" by Giorgio Verdelli is dedicated to the famous Italian multi-instrumentalist. "Ezio is a wonderful pianist and a wonderful composer," recalls Verdelli, who was friends with Bosso. From childhood, Ezio suffered from a rare form of sclerosis, and his whole life is a story of overcoming, struggle and creative talent. The composer passed away in 2020.

The film Hidden Boy by Roberto Ando closed Mostra last year. This is a picture about the boundaries that we build in ourselves, about our inner child, which must be cherished in adulthood. The main character is also a man of art. Gabriele Santoro is the head of the piano department at the Naples Conservatory. He lives a secluded life in the disadvantaged area of Forchell. One day, Santoro discovers in his apartment the 10-year-old son of the tenants from the top floor who escaped from the house, hiding from the mafia.

Leonardo di Costanzo filmed "Ariaferma" about the psychological confrontation between guards and prisoners in a closing old prison. A psychological thriller starring Tony Servillo and Silvio Orlando - a statement about the absurdity of prison as such, where the overseers, intoxicated by power, gradually lose their humanity.

"Latin America" by young directors of twin brothers Damiano D "Innocenzo and Fabio Roberto D" Innocenzo tells the story of the owner of the dental clinic Massimo Sisti: the happy owner of everything one can only dream of - a beautiful villa, family, business. But one day this ideal being will lead him to a nervous breakdown.

Gabriel Mainetti made a film-experiment in the fantasy genre new to Italian cinema. Desperate Freaks tells the story of four freak circus performers who are forced to roam Nazi Rome in 1943 after their circus is bombed. They are pursued by the Nazis, who dream of catching all the "mutants". But it's not that easy. Each of the artists has a superpower - one exudes electricity, the other has remarkable strength.

The tape "Peacock Paradise" by Laura Bispuri is close to the best creations of Italian painting in terms of the strength of its impact. On a cool winter day, the whole family gathers in a country house to celebrate the birthday of her matriarch, the strong-willed Nena (Dominique Sanda, the star of films by Bertolucci and Bresson). She lives with her husband, a housekeeper friend, and her daughter, who has taken a vow of silence. Resorting to the classic plot of a family celebration, the director touches on the subtle themes of loneliness, betrayal of oneself, and the failure of the outdated myth about the family.

And finally, "For the Grace Received" directed by Nino Manfredi - a restored 1971 tragicomedy about the clash of faith and the power of reason, sin and grace in the soul of a religious person.
