Moldova - Suspended Deputy Prosecutor General Ruslan Popov Dissatisfied with Restrictions on Professional Activities

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Ruslan Popov, who was dismissed from his post as Deputy Prosecutor General, is dissatisfied with the restrictions on his professional activities. The prosecutor involved in the case of illicit enrichment does not agree with the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors. He stated that he has the right to choose any position in the system, and not just the executive one, publika.md reports.

"I believe that vacancies are not included in the public list at anyone's discretion. There is no need to decide which positions we remove and which are not. All vacancies are announced. In my opinion, any omission and concealment means abuse or excess of official authority," Ruslan said Popov.

In response, Acting Prosecutor General Dmitry Robu noted that Popov had run out of time to choose the desired position: “He could choose a vacant post within 15 days, this period has expired. The Law on the Prosecutor’s Office says in black and white: to the position of prosecutor. To qualify for it, you must take part in the competition. "

After an hour of discussion, the Supreme Council of Prosecutors took note of the request of the Acting Prosecutor General on Popov's labor legal relations and submitted materials on this issue for the start of administrative procedures. The decision can be appealed within 30 days to the Appeals Chamber.

Ruslan Popov was detained on October 9, 2021 after searches were carried out in his house in the village of Milestii Mich, Ialoveni district, and in his office at the General Prosecutor's Office. He called these actions a public reprisal on the part of criminal gangs and individual politicians. Popov denies all accusations against him.
