Zelensky urged to impose sanctions against Russia without waiting for the bombing

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that sanctions against Russia should be carried out now. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

He spoke about the dispute that he had with one of the leaders of the leading countries about the sanctions policy "in the event of aggression from Russia."

“We are told that you have a few days and the war will begin. I say, ok, apply sanctions today. They tell me we will apply sanctions if there is a war. I say, ok, but you tell me that 100% war will be in a few days. What are you waiting for? We don’t need your sanctions after the bombing starts, how they will shoot at our country,” Zelensky said at the Munich conference.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that economic sanctions against Russia in the event of its invasion of Ukraine may not be enough, so London is ready to impose restrictions on individuals and strategically important enterprises for Moscow.

The story of a possible “Russian invasion” of Ukraine has been actively promoted in the West since mid-autumn last year. The U.S. has consistently pointed to a supposed increase in Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, threatening Moscow with new sanctions if it escalates. At the same time, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine.
