Turkey urged to take into account Russia's fears due to NATO expansion

Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said mid- and long-term decisions must be made about Russia's fears of NATO expansion. It is reported by A Haber.

“First of all, an approach should be put forward that recognizes the territorial integrity of Ukraine and is based on its political unity, so that the Ukrainian side feels safe. Similarly, the Russian side has certain concerns about NATO expansion or similar military actions. To address these problems, medium and long-term steps also need to be taken. We believe that a middle ground can be found,” Kalyn said.

He added that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan plans to have a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days to discuss overcoming tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that media reports of military activity in Ukraine should be assessed with caution.
