Finland is not afraid of aggravation on the border with Russia

Finnish President Sauli Niiniste said that the country's authorities are not afraid of the aggravation of the situation on the border with Russia. He spoke about this in an interview with CNN.

“We are not afraid at all. In reality, the situation on the Finnish border and throughout the Baltic region is rather calm. We are not afraid that Russian tanks will suddenly cross the border,” the president said.

At the same time, he added that the situation in Europe is now "much more vulnerable" than at the height of the Cold War, because at that time "there were at least some agreements between the United States and the Soviet Union."

Niiniste said earlier that he sees no reason to revise the non-participation policy in NATO, but acknowledged that discussions about this are underway. Finland will continue them, and depending on the further situation in Ukraine, this may become much more likely.
