Putin and Biden agreed to hold a summit

French President Emmanuel Macron proposed holding a summit between the leaders of Russia and the United States. Both sides agreed, RIA Novosti reports, citing statements from the Elysee Palace.

“He (Macron) proposed a summit between President Biden and President Putin and then with all stakeholders on security and strategic stability in Europe. Presidents Biden and Putin accepted the idea of such a summit in principle,” the statement said.

It is noted that questions for the summit will be prepared at a meeting between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which will be held on February 24. The summit will take place if Russia does not attack Ukraine, the statement said.

Earlier, Blinken reported that US President Joe Biden was ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prior to this, Blinken, during a telephone conversation with Lavrov, said that the possibilities for resolving the crisis around Ukraine still remain.

Since the autumn of last year, the Western media, as well as in Ukraine, have been claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine. In Moscow, such allegations have been repeatedly rejected.
