The Canadian Foreign Ministry announced its intention to impose sanctions against Russia

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that the country condemns the decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, considers this a violation of the Minsk agreements, the UN Charter and a threat to the security of the region, and also intends to impose sanctions against Russia that are not related to prepared measures for allegedly possible " invasion" of Ukraine. She wrote about this on her Twitter.

“We strongly condemn the recognition by (Russian) President Vladimir Putin of the non-government-controlled (Ukraine) Donetsk and Luhansk regions as independent regions. Canada, along with its partners and allies, plans to respond harshly to this blatant disregard for international law. Our plans are to impose economic sanctions for such actions, which are in no way connected with those prepared to respond to any further military aggression and Russian invasion of Ukraine, ”wrote Joly.

She stressed that the actions of the Russian Federation are a direct violation of the Minsk agreements, the Charter of the United Nations, as well as a serious threat to the security and stability of the region.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russians, in which he stated the need to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass.
