CNN: Blinken hasn't canceled meetings with Lavrov yet

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has not yet canceled a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov scheduled for Thursday. This was reported by CNN, citing sources in the State Department.

It is noted, however, that high-ranking officials have been discussing this decision all day.

Earlier it became known that the meeting between Lavrov and Blinken should take place on February 24 in Geneva "only on the condition that Russia does not invade Ukraine."

Earlier, Blinken, during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said that there were still opportunities to resolve the crisis around Ukraine.

Lavrov, in a conversation with Blinken, noted the inadmissibility of aggressive rhetoric. The minister also stressed the need to continue joint work, which the presidents of Russia and the United States had previously agreed on.

Prior to this, the last time Lavrov and Blinken communicated on February 12. Then the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry told the Secretary of State that the Western information campaign against Russia could eventually lead to a war in the Donbass. In addition, Lavrov pointed out that the United States did not agree to implement the key provisions of the security guarantees offered by Russia.
