The UN expressed regret over the recognition of Russia's DPR and LPR

United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo during a meeting of the UN Security Council said that Russia's decision on the DPR and LPR could have both regional and global consequences, the UN regrets in connection with it. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We very much regret this decision, which could have regional and global implications,” DiCarlo said.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden signed a decree on sanctions in connection with Russia's recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

The decree notes that new investments in the DPR and LPR are prohibited; export, re-export, sale or supply from the United States of any goods to these regions, as well as the importation of goods, services or technologies from them; any US approval, funding or assistance in the DPR and LPR.

Prior to this, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russians, in which he stated the need to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass.

In addition, Putin signed with the heads of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin and the Lugansk People's Republic Leonid Pasechnik agreements "on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance."
